Classroom Information

2017-2018

This is a general outline of our classroom procedures and policies.  Please use this as a reference, but remember... I have an open door policy.  I am ALWAYS happy to answer ANY questions and talk.  Please contact me with any questions or concerns you have.  Email is the quickest way to connect with me, but you may always call the school as well.

PARENT VOLUNTEERS:

Parent helpers are always welcome! Let me know if you’d like to sign up for a set time, but also if you’d like to come in from time to time but cannot commit to a weekly time or would like to do projects at home. We are so fortunate to be at a school with such high parent involvement and we thank you all so much.   We tend to share our volunteers with a volunteer station where you will find projects that need assistance.  Thank you so much for being willing to help out!

If you would like to volunteer in the class or go on any of our field trips, YOU NEED TO FILL OUT THE VOLUNTEER BACKGROUND CHECK FORM & REGISTRATION FORM IN THE OFFICE.  IF YOU ARE UNSURE IF YOU NEED TO UPDATE YOUR FORMS, PLEASE CONTACT THE OFFICE.  PLEASE DO THIS ASAP, AS THIS WILL TAKE TIME TO PROCESS.

SPECIALS:

Our schedule is:

Monday:

Tuesday: Counseling

Wednesday: Music

       Thursday: Library

          Friday: PE

BIRTHDAYS:

Please do not bring cupcakes or other edible treats for the children.   Also, please do not send invitations to school, unless there is one for everyone in the class (this is school policy), so that feelings do not get hurt.  Thanks for your understanding.

WATER BOTTLES:

I encourage the children to bring the “pop top” plastic water bottles to decrease the chance of spilling.  Please make sure that your child’s first and last name are on the bottle, so that there are no mix ups.  Students will be able to refill their bottles at recess time or other designated times during the school day.

SNACKS:

Students are welcome to bring a healthy snack with them to school each day.  Please do not send candy, cookies, chips, or other types of junk food.  This is for a healthy boost mid morning.  Thank you.

Homework/Planners

In an effort to increase your child’s education, daily homework will be assigned throughout the week. Homework is a tool to reinforce concepts and skills learned during the school day. Each night, except Friday, your child will be assigned homework relating to the things we are working on in class.

PLANNER:

All homework assignments should be written in your child’s weekly planner.  This information is also on our class website under the tab, Planner.

WHAT YOU CAN EXPECT FOR HOMEWORK:

•     Reading: Read 30 minutes each night (Monday-Thursday) and record in his or her planners.

•     Spelling: A spelling list can be found on Spelling City each week. There are assigned spelling activities for the week on the Spelling City website.  We focus on the words as vocabulary words, so students will learn the meaning and usage of each word, along with the spelling.  Our spelling vocabulary connects to our reading unit of the week.

•     Math: A math practice sheet will go home most nights (Monday-Thursday) and needs to be returned completed the following day.  This is an extension to our math lessons that we are working on, so that students can practice and master the skills being taught in class.

•     Writing: Depending upon the lesson, writing homework could consist of a practice sheet or editing/revising work done in class or a reading response. Any writing homework assigned needs to be completed and returned the following day.

•     Moby Max: Each student needs to complete 60 minutes of Moby Max a week.  A week starts on Friday afternoon and ends on the following Friday morning (or the morning of the last day of the week).

Other projects and assignments will pop up through the year.  Please refer to your child’s planner or our planner page on the website for assignments.

For the last day of each week, please sign your child’s planner, to show that they have shown you what’s been happening in class, and that they have read each night.

Thank you for your continued support! Looking forward to a fun & exciting year!
