Ms. Kilpatrick's AP Chemistry

Course Description

The AP Chemistry course is designed to be the equivalent of a yearlong college introductory chemistry course.  This challenging course will build upon the concepts and skills developed in Chemistry A and B at a deeper level.  In addition, it will further develop an in-depth understanding of solution chemistry, chemical reactions, kinetics, chemical equilibrium, acid-base chemistry, thermochemistry, thermodynamics, and electrochemistry.  Course work consists of chemistry problems, laboratory reports, tests, and quizzes.  Students are engaged in hands-on laboratory work, integrated throughout the course, which accounts for at least 25% of class time.

Course Prerequisites: OCHS Chemistry A/B or equivalent high school general chemistry course.

For more information about AP Chemistry, visit the college board website at https://apstudent.collegeboard.org/apcourse/ap-chemistry.

Advanced College Credit (ACC) Offered

Students taking AP Chemistry are eligible to register for advanced college credit through Clackamas Community College.  The fall, winter, and spring trimesters of AP Chemistry cover the course content of General Chemistry CH-221 and CH-222.   Students are responsible for meeting all registration, drop, and payment deadlines.  Registration instructions & deadlines are found at http://www.clackamas.edu/acc

CH-221 Course Description: Transfer lab course for science, engineering, and professional majors. Covers the nature of chemistry, atomic theory, electron configuration, structure, bonding, properties, composition and nomenclature of covalent and ionic substances.  Introduces organic chemistry and biochemistry topics.

CH-222 Course Description: A lab course discussing reactions, stoichiometry, thermodynamics, organic compounds and polymers, kinetics, and equilibrium.  Topics involving organic chemistry and biochemistry are introduced.Because this is a dual credit class, earning both high school and college credit, you are held to student conduct policies of both Oregon City High School and Clackamas Community College.  Refer to the OCHS Code of Conduct and the CCC Student Handbook (http://www.clackamas.edu/documents/handbook.pdf).
