ARTIST STATEMENT


For EACH PHOTOGRAPHY assignment,

you will need to TYPE UP and PRINT OUT

an ARTIST STATEMENT!

*I will not grade an assignment until you have a placed a printed out (physical sheet of paper) Artist Statement

in your period turn in basket.



What is an Artist Statement?

A general, straight-forward explanation of a specific project or body of work.


How should it be formatted for this class?

Single-spaced, 12-point font.

Your NAME and PERIOD in the TOP RIGHT corner

The ASSIGNMENT NAME as the title.

One to two paragraphs.


What should it include?

1. Open with the work's basic ideas in a 2-3 sentence overview.

2. Then go into detail about how these issues or ideas are presented in the work.

3. Consider answering ANY (and all) of the following questions:

          -How did you meet the criteria for the assignment?

          -What is your idea/vision for the project and why you went that route?

          -What you are proud of? What is successful?

          -What did you learn while completing this project?

          -Changes you would make to your work?

          -Post-production (Photoshop editing), and how it enhances your finished project?

          -What you expect from your audience and how they will react?

          -How your work fits in with your "style" of art-making?

          -Did you take any artistic risks? How so?

          -Inspiration for your images?

          -Artists you have been influenced by or how your work relates to other artists' work?

          -How a certain technique or subject matter is important to you?

          -Your philosophy of art-making or the work's origin?


4. Use the ELEMENTS and PRINCIPLES of DESIGN to answer these questions and explain yourself.
