European Choice Activity
Choose ONE of the following prompts to write a brief essay about. This will count as an assessment for Standard 3
You are completing two activities, one each for standards 2 and 3
European Historical Artist Essay
You will be writing a brief (4-6 paragraph) essay on an historical (born prior to 1910) European artist of your choice. You can choose any famous European painter, sculptor, composer, or author, but please note that you must check with Mr. Thygeson before you start, in order to make sure no one else has already claimed that person, because no one else in this class can have the same artist.
Your expository essay will need to include an introductory and a concluding paragraph and discuss:
1) A brief background on the artist when did they live, where were the from, just some basic biographical information.
2) Why the artist you choose is famous – what are their most important works, did they create a new style or technique, did they revolutionize the arts in some way?
Your essay must be in MLA style and include information from at least three sources, that are correctly cited in the text and on a works cited page. You will be typing your essay on your school Google account, sharing it with Mr. Thygeson, and giving him editing access to the document (not view or comment access).
European Historical Artistic Movement Essay
You will be writing a brief (4-6 paragraph) essay on an historical European artistic genre. Your essay can focus on historically famous eras and styles of music, writing, painting, or sculpting. Please note that you must check with Mr. Thygeson before you start, in order to make sure no one else has already claimed that topic, because no one else in this class can have the same genre of focus.
Your expository essay will need to include an introductory and a concluding paragraph and discuss:
1) A brief historical background on the style/genre such as what was the time period it took place in, where were most of the artists using this style located, who were some of the famous artists that used this style and discuss examples of their work.
2) Describe why this era is famous. How did it build off previous styles, how did it change the way people created or viewed art, what made it revolutionary or unique?
Your essay must be in MLA style and include information from at least three sources, that are correctly cited in the text and on a works cited page. You will be typing your essay on your school Google account, sharing it with Mr. Thygeson, and giving him editing access to the document (not view or comment access).
